Level II Ultrasounds are more thorough in the measurements. The tech measures and checks almost everything, compared to a regular Ultrasound.

It is called a "level 2" ultrasounds. Most facilities schedule the 20 week level 2 scan and the genetic consult back to back. If you are only getting one ultrasound then yes wait until 20 weeks that is the best time for the level 2 ultrasound.

I'm not sure what a type2 ultrasound is- but I tried to search for it, and didn't come up with anything. I kind of suspect that you may have misunderstood your midwife- could it be possible that she was suggesting you wait for the US so you can check for a certain condition type2? There are a lot of conditions you might be checking for this way...

Anyhow- I just wanted to help, and if you have more info from your midwife, please feel free to post it. Also, as a patient, you have the right to call your medical providers and ask for additional explainations. I was with a good friend 24 hours after she had a c-section and the doctor came in and dropped a huge bomb on her that her baby could have been born with an extremely serious genetic condition. My friend was in no condition to get this info- and the doctor made no effort to explain things to her in a slow, kind manner. I was so glad to be there- I asked the doctor to write down the names of the conditions and what the potential outcomes could be. You can ask your doctor the same thing. It sounds like you are in a difficult position- don't be afraid to appear "dumb" ask tons of questions and always get doctors to write stuff down for you. Best of luck!
