Three of the best eyeliners I have used are:
MAC Fluidline
Bobbi Brown Gel Ink
Stila Smudge Pots
They do not smudge, last for at least twelve hours and the color does not fade.
The only downside is that you need to use a brush to apply it and takes a bit of practice to apply the gel eyeliner perfectly.
But if you have the patience, you will be rewarded with stay-put eyeliner that will last during the day! Good luck!!

I like Rimmel. Very black. It also helps to get a powder to set it. Put on the eyeliner, then "blot" it with translucent powder. Obviously, you have to be careful with this or it gets in your eyes. I like L'Oreal's true match or color match or whatever that is because it's very low-dust.
Another way to prevent smudging is get a liquid eyeliner. Once that puppy's on there, it's ON there. But it also has a completely different look than pencil/crayon eyeliner. There's a liquid eyeliner pen I used to buy that I can't remember the name of. Maybelline or Cover Girl, one of the drug store brands. It came in a dark cadet blue tube similar to a mascara tube and the wand part was gold. Also a very dark black!
Of course, like that first girl said, MAC brand is the very, very best. That's what the stars use.

Avon makes a self-sharpening waterproof eyeliner and that works great. Also like the other lady said...using a slanted brush and eyeshadow works good with a lot more colors to choose from.

what type of eyeliner do you use? liquid eyeliner or the pencil? i personally like the pencil eyeliner.. the liquid one feels really weird and it smudges... or perhaps its just the way i put it on. im currently using lancome dark brown eyeliner.

Mac fluidline. Really. It stays put, its like a gel so its really easy to apply with a brush, its smooth... and it stays put!! ive had it on for 7 days before && it didnt even smudge (camp * no showers) but it washes off easily. perfect ay.

the best eyeliner out there is marykay! honestly, i'm a makeup artist, i've worked for certin 'name' companies and so basiclly i've tried it all. marykay doesn't smudge ever! and it goes on so smooth it's almost unreal how good it works. and it's $9.50! it's the kind you twist out not the sharpened one...but it's great!!!! i promise!

I found eyeshadow instead of Kohl pencil to be easier to apply and stays better, you get plenty more shades to choose from too.
