Confusing. OK, it was a long time ago for me, but I doubt it's gotten any less confusing since. For one thing, you have all these things demanding your attention, academic and social, and only so many hours in the day. And even young healthy people need to sleep some of the time.
Also, I remember most of my time in college, both dorms and co-ops, as noisy. I learned to wear earplugs to sleep. Then, I reasoned, if I could hear my neighbor's stereo enough to keep me awake even with the ear plugs, it really was too loud, and I felt justified in asking them to turn it down.
Another thing I remember is that people need places to meet and hang out. We had Mark's Coffeehouse in Ann Arbor when I was there, but I think it's closed now. There has to be a place with coffee and tea, probably herb tea and cocoa as well, and chairs and tables and chess sets and no rules about how long you can sit. Look for it, and cherish it. Some of my most rewarding friendships started at Mark's.
The other thing I should mention is conventions. It seems there aren't any -- anything goes -- but there are. The older the school is, the more it has. For example, there was a great big brass M in the middle of the Diag (square with diagonal pathways), and the convention was you don't step on the M. I wonder if that started because smooth brass gets slippery as heck in a Michigan winter, but maybe there was more to it than that. Of course, people wear all sorts of clothes and hair styles and experiment with whatever they can, but they don't walk on the M.

It all depends. It really is what you make of it. In terms of academics, you'll find that people are working harder than in high school because for the most part, everyone WANTS to be there and to do well.
Socially, you will find that people tend to be much more accepting of, well, pretty much everything. Also, you'll find groups and organizations representing things you never even THOUGHT you might be interested in. DO LOOK INTO THIS! No matter what else you are doing, make sure you find the time to get involved in some extra curricular activity at college. Half your education comes from outside the classroom. Also, this is a good way to meet upperclassmen who can give you all kinds of useful advice and inside info.

Depends on whether you are going to study or party! It is quite difficult to do both, and if you are going to party, it's an expensive way to do it. If you are going to study, it is a lot better than high school because you can focus on YOUR interests with people of a like mind! Have fun!

Its like living on your own if you never did before. You do things when you want to... But, make sure you take care of your responsibilities correctly or you wouldn't last in college.
