all depends on what size lumber you are using to span the length between the tops of the poles. I assume when you say pole barn you mean an open sided structure with a roof.

if you are using 2 x 6's, then 6' is about the longest span I would use

if you are using 2 x 8's, then 10' is about the longest span I would use

if you are using 2 x 10's, then 12' is about the longest span I would use

any more and you will see sagging in no time

All the barns i've help build have had posts 10 feet apart. this gives room for a door if you want one. also makes for easy spacing and math. example: 30 x 60 barn will have 7 posts on the long ends and 4 posts on the short ends making 20 posts total. atleast I think that's right anyhow.

my answer: 10 feet from center to center.

I assume your using atleast 6x6 posts...

i woulg guess 4' because plywood is 4' wide. u should give more info.
