Thanks to you guys ive decided to go ahead and look into starting my own respite centre. I need to buy a flat and make it autism friendly, and get all the licences etc.
The next step is to see if i have any chance of getting funding, i live in the U.K, in plymouth, Devon, I am 18, and will be 20 by the time i start the business

Message for Annie M
I have 2 years of caring for children with autism in a school setting and 2 years working as a respite carer.
By 'Autism friendly' i mean childlocks on drawers, nutral colour rooms, high door handles, etc.
I am not 'looking for handouts' i am saving for it now, however i will need help.

Yes I believe you should be able to get funding from several sources. You should look to see if plymouth is part of any business regeneration scheme run by the government, and I believe you can get government grants for starting a business and being under the age of 25.

As it is a healthcare organisation you may also be able to get some kind of funding although this I am not sure of.

You are deffiantley eligiable for a grant from the trust that is run by prince charles, although the name of it escapes me at the moment. It came into my head The Princes Trust.

Although of course all these grants and the like are on the condition that your business plan passes strict scrutiny. It may also be worth talking to you local banks to see if they can advise you further.

At 18 what experience do you have with autism? I cant see them dishing out money for flats etc. Seems you just want handouts, how about working and saving and putting some money towards it. And what the **** is autism friendly?

You could go to your bank. Make sure you have all your ideas written down(a business plan). You should be able to get a business start-up loan(try natwest, they are usually the best bank for these sorts of thing). Good luck x
