My computer crashed and suddenly the sound coming from the box increased. I was forced to reset and the fan continues to make a loud noise. Why? Is it a malfunction?

Your processor is getting hotter and telling your fan to speed up! This is not uncommon but you may want to shut your PC down and unplug it. Take the cover or panel off and gently suck the dust out of all fans with your vacuum cleaner brush attachement. Be carefull! Keep in mind, the more software you run, the harder your processor works!

Its probably a sign that the bearings on the fan are starting to die, time to replace it if you cant live with the noise, but i have had success by applying a drop of cooking oil to the pivots with a cocktail stick but this will only work temporarily

that is a sign that your fan is starting to die. get it replaced. if it's from the power supply, get that replaced too. it's not very hard and there are tons of sites showing you how to do this. if it's the cpu fan then buy a good quality fan. you don't want overheats.

Probably spinning faster than normal, and it could be that your processor is overheating. If its sounds metallic, the blades are touching the housing. It needs to be looked into pronto.

I am guessing that the fan bushes are worn, and you need to replace the fan.
