I think we all should have the right to carry guns as we live in such a violent world now. What people should understand is that you have to have a back ground check through the FBI/ATF after you fill out a gun form and this is done even when obtaining a concealed carry permit. Not everybody (including police officers) passes for clearance. The person selling the gun to the public, can not by law, sell the gun to a person without that form and approval. The kids who get the weapons and bring them to school obtained the gun most likely from their own home (which there needs to be more concealment in homes such as gun cases that are locked and the parent having the key with them), Parents also need to keep up with their children, even when it is hard because of work etc. We need to curb the violence on TV, movies, and video games, as well as computer usage.
As far as the adults going into schools.....there needs to be more security at schools, period.
If we only allow law enforcement to have guns, we would not be able to protect ourselves because criminals and psychos will get their weapons no matter what. On that issue there definitely needs to be stronger laws for offenders, as it seems to be just a revolving door where they are sent through the system and not punished severely enough.

Yes, they "should be allowed the right to bear firearms." The American public has the right to defend themselves. In the cases of such outrage, it is not the weapon, but the brain behind it that does the damage.

If he did not have firearms, he may have still carried out the crime, using a different weapon, a knife perhaps. Would you ban all knives because there is a chance some deranged person might use one to inflict harm on other people?

Addition: The New Zealand model restricts the ownership of firearms to a wealthy few who can afford it and smacks very much of a police state. The people of the US will not allow either the overt discrimination, nor the "Big Brother" police state methods.

I think the system that works well in New Zealand could be used as a model in the US. In NZ you are required to sit a firearm safety test with the Police, and once you pass, they inspect your house to make sure you have a solid, lockable gun case and a separate locked place for ammunition. If you move you must notify them, and they will come and inspect your new adress and update your file.

Sure. some people would still be able to obtain guns illegally but the majority would not know how to go about it, and being registered with the police may weed out a few freaks.

yes i think we should be allowed our constitutional rights, no matter what, freaks like that guy would have gotten or made a weapon to do what he did,,, taking our guns is a big step towards the government completely running our lives, people think we're ss h l s now, imagine what it'd be like if criminals and our government wasnt at least a little afraid of an armed public,, the Republicans are on their way out, we can get back to running this country and not other peoples,, also, guns are just fun in the right hands, and its my right as an american to have that fun

People kill people. When there are screwballs running all over some one is going to get hurt. Guns or No Guns.

There are more people killed in the United States each year than were killed in the Vietnam War by medical malpractice. So lets get rid of the Doctors.

There are more people killed each year by donkeys than in air crashes. I suppose in this case we should get rid of the Donkeys and just to be on the safe side rid ourselves of airplanes.

It seems to me that many times we try to push a wagon with a rope rather than pull it. We have a go at problems bassackwards.

If saving lives is our priority why don't we collectively attack the illegal drug trade with the vengeance of an earthquake?

I think that is a very huge part of the problem, almost anyone who wants a firearm legally can obtain one. Why do so many people need firearms anyway. I think we need stricter gun control laws. In Ohio you can obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon. why most individuals have no reason to be carrying around a gun. We do not live in the Wild West anymore. Just my opinion.

It is our Constitutional right to bear arms.

There are a lot of people who make poor choices..if you take away our choices what are we? If you have someone who has mental issue or is unstable in some way, you can never be sure what they are going to do.

I know it sounds rambling, but the nation can't be responsible for the poor choices of a few. We will mourn and support those who loose loved ones, but our choices shouldn't be restricted based upon that. Besides, for handgun there is a waiting period to purchase anyway.

It isn't the guns that are killing it is the person holding the gun and pulls that trigger. I believe the public should not be allowed to bear arms. Only law enfocement personnal.

Yes, we should have the right to bear arms. Years and years ago , a man broke into my grandfathers house, was threatening to kill my grandmother ( was actually going to kill her with a claw hammer ) and my grandfather shot him. I'm glad my grandfather had that gun and I'm glad he used it. It's only when crazy people get their hands on one, thats when it becomes a problem.
