solve it using algebraic representation.

Pipe A contributes (1 tank) / (6 hr) = 0.167 tank/hr and Pipe B contributes (1 tank) / (5 hr) = 0.2 tank/hr, while Pipe C removes 1/10 = 0.1 tank/hr. So the total rate of change when all pipes are open is 0.167 + 0.2 - 0.1 = 0.267 tank/hr. (1 tank) / (0.267 tank/hr) = 3.75 hr. 3 hours and 45 minutes.

Pipe A takes 6 hrs so in 1 hr 1/6th of tank
Pipe B 1/5th
Pipe C 1/10 th

1 / 6 + 1 / 5 - 1 / 10 = 4 / 15

so in 1 hr
4/15th of tank will be filled
and to fill one tank we need 15/4 hours i.e 3.75 hrs or 3 hours 45 mins

Pipe A fills 1/6 tank per hour, or 0.1667 tank/hr B fills at 1/9 tank per hour or 0.1111 tank/hour C empties at 1/3 tank per hour or fills at –0.3333 tank/hour adding them up we get 0.0555 – 0.3333 = – 0.2778 tank/hr you are missing the initial conditions. Assuming you are starting with a full tank, it takes: 1 tank / 0.2778 tank/hr = 3.6 hours to empty it.

3.75 hours
Assume the tank is 100 gals. Pipe A is 100/6 = 16.66 gal/hr, Pipe B is 100/5= 20 gals/hr, Pipe C is 100/10 = 10 gals/hr. 16.66 + 20 - 10 = 26.66 gal/hr. 100 gal/26.66 gal/hr = 3.75 hours.
Assuming an arbitrary size of the tank helped me to understand the problem.

rate pipe a =1/6perh pipe b 1/5ph c=-1/10ph. total rate= 1/6+1/5-1/10=8/10ph. 8/30in ihr so 1 in 30/8hr 3hr 45min
