You should recognize that no matter what you do, your house will always be infested with bugs in the walls. There could be ants or termites, sow bugs or centipedes. There is no getting rid of them...if you kill off one generation they will always come back. The only thing that keeps them under control is their natural enemies...the spider. The spider preys on all these other insects and manages to keep them fairly well under control in most houses.
So now you get to decide...do you want to rid your house of spiders, thereby allowing the uncontrolled procreation of other species of bugs? Or do you leave the spiders alone (except for the easily visible ones) and allow them to do their jobs?

The only way that I have even known to keep spiders away from the house is periodic, scheduled spraying. Pest Control companies (Orkin, etc) will do this with a guarantee. I live near a lake and we have all kinds and breeds. When spiders see your lights on through the windows at night, they make that the prime spot to set up traps (webs). Caulk around your windows to prevent them from making side trips. Any dampness in a crawl space or basement will attract them, also. But the best thing you can do is have your house sprayed often. Good Luck!

Spiders hate conkers. It's great that these are ripe at this time of year when spiders are most active. I always collect a load of them and put them in bowls around the house. It really does work. Bought stuff called Spider Stop from Betterware last week - spray it round doors and windows to deter them coming in. DOESNT WORK - I think it's actually attracting the buggers so dont waste your money on that stuff !

Really -- the best thing to do is enlist the help of an exterminator. No matter how meticulous your wife is at cleaning, they will find their way in -- so you need someone to professionally spray around the house. This will prevent them from coming in at all.
I think you will like the results.

Squish em!!! But seriously there are some great surface sprays around nowadays, any spider or bug that crawls over the spray isn't going to feel the best!!
Other than that, maybe try and encourage more birds to the garden, and just hope that u don't have the Bird Eating Tarantula living nearby, BLOODY BIG SPIDER!!!! Approx 14cm long and just BIG!!!

Spray any nooks and crannies in your house with bug spray. Also spray the frames of any windows. if you do this about once a week, the number or spiders should be dramatically reduced as they'll stay away from the smell of the spray.

Buy ultrasonic device that will keep you free of all creepies including Mice but has no effect on Cats and Dogs. I have used one for a few years and found it very efficient. Redeverard

If you want a pet that'll take care of them for you, invest in some lizards. No, they are not the most affectionate/pretty pets, but they will get rid of any insects that dare come into your house. Talk to your local pet stores. Good luck.

You might want to have the house inspected for ants or termites. Usually the reason for house spiders is there is food for them (other insects). Have the house inspected thoroughly.
