Here are the steps:

Right click My Computer, choose Properties.
Click the Hardware tab, then the Device Manager button.
Click on the plus sign next to "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
See if any of them say "Serial ATA controller"
If none of them say that, then you don't have serial ATA capability.
If one of them says that, then you do have the capability, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have a SATA drive installed.

(On my PC I was unable to determine that my HD was SATA by looking at the HD info. But I know that I have a SATA drive.)

I am assuming that you have Windows XP O.S.

You don't need to open your p.c. Turn on your p.c. in the desktop right click on the My Computer Icon. and then Select Properties. Then the Properties Dialog box will appear. In that select Hardware tab in that tab under Device Manager there will be a button called Device Manager, Click that. Then the Device Manager window will appear. In that there will be a tree starting from your p.c.'s network name. under that there will be this tree with a plus mark near it, if you have a ATA hard disk it would say "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers". And if you have a SATA it would be mentioned there as "IDE SATA controllers".

Your HD is ATA.
To find the RPM find the HD model and look for the specifications in the manufacturers' site.
You can use Hardware doctor or Everest (shareware),

What you need is the Everest software that gives you all these details and much more. They used to have a free 'home edition' version that was great -- see if you can search around and find this.

SEE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO OPEN CABINET,THEN
RESTART YOUR PC , THE PRESS DEL / F1/F2 TO ENTER INTO CMOS SETUP
IF YOU FIND PRIMARY OR SECONDERY IDE WITH ANY HDD
THEN IT IS A PATA HDD IF IT IS BLANK THEN IT IS SATA.

GOOD LUCK !
