When you see some competing they seem to be more disable than others and, therefore they seem to have less chance of winning.

Although winning is rewarded, I believe the emphisis is on competing and trying one's best. Yes, some are "less severly handicapped" but the point is that all get their shot at trying. Everyone gets recognized, even the "non-winners". Although their are no "non-winners" in the Special Olympics.
