I don't agree that fluency in the English language is the utmost qualification for this position. I think someone who has really travelled the Philippines would be the best spokesperson for Tourism or someone whose roots are based here and not in some foreign land. Lea Salonga may be internationally known but has she travelled the Philippines extensively to be able to promote it convincingly? -- for me, Kris Aquino can do this. She is also known since she is the daughter of a former President and a Martyr.

You're all saying only English-speaking Filipinos that are famous in the U.S., how about those Spanish-speaking Filipinos famous in Spain? Like legendary Antonio "Junior" Morales or his hija Shayla Durcal? Or Enrique Iglesias, or his mum Isabel Preysler? Being Filipino should not just be measured by how much Malay blood you have, NOR SHOULD WE MEASURE OUR SELF-WORTH BASED ON HOW ACCEPTED WE ARE IN THE AMERICAN ENTERTAINMENT MEDIA.

AND NOT TIA CARRERE OR LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS, BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT PROUD TO BE FILIPINO, EVEN THOUGH THEY TRY TO APPEAR TO BE, THEY'RE NOT REALLY. THEY'RE SHAMEFUL, WHY WOULD WE WANT FILIPINOS THAT ARE ASHAMED TO BE FILIPINO TO BE OUR SPOKESPEOPLE? LEA SALONGA, ANTONIO MORALES, SHAYLA DURCAL, THUMBS UP.

The 8 million OFWs scattered around the world. Imagine if these OFWs could invite just one tourist to visit our country that would translate to 8 million already. And those millions of filipinos registered/using friendster or myspace and even Yahoo Answers would be a great help to promote our country.

lou diamond phillips or tia carerra for international spokeperson for philippines for the simple reason that those 2 have to be the most famous philipinos in the world other than emelda marcos (only cause of her shoe fetish she is remembered and she wouldnt make a good spokesperson for simple reason she was involved in politics) both faces would be recognised worldwide just from thier many movies and since they would be targeting north america and europe for tourism they would be suited for the job. "pacman" is more famous in philippines than in usa cause most people can usally only name heavyweight boxers. also the guy from black eyed peas wouldnt make a good spokesperson cause most people just think he is black and wouldnt make the conection with the phills unless they were a fan of bep. also before the phills starts to think about international tourism they should probly take care of the MILF and NPA first and stop all the coruption in the gov there. the only time the philipiines EVER make the news in usa is when they have a coup attempt or some american is kidnapped in mindanao. the phills really gets killed by bad press worldwide and they need to improve thier image and clean up thier country. i lived in phils for 2 years and i have never felt threatened or feared for my safety there and i think it is a beautiful country and friendly people but until they can change thier "bad press image" it would be hard to convince people to come there that have never been there before. and if you dont belive me just look on this yahoo questions page and look to see how many people ask about how safe it is there? that question comes up every other day here.
