Human resources management is a term now used more recently instead of the more traditional term "personnel management". Each is a globally descriptive term that relates to all functions relating to people; e.g., hiring, training, employee relations, labor relations, benefits administration, etc. The size of the organization is a determining factor. In very large companies each of these functions may have a separate manager, all of whom would report to a senior manager whose title can be Vice President, Director or Manager. As the size of the organization diminishes we will find these functions are combined in different combinations under fewer managers. In small companies one person may be responsible for all of these functions.
