About evolution only that they belong to Mammalia Cass, like us. But those orders are:
Hedgehogs: Insectivora
Pig: Artiodactyla
Human: Primates

Groundhogs replaced hedgehogs to predict the length of winter depending on wether they can see their shadow. Pigs have the same power to see their shadow and predict the coming of spring; but only on Groundhog Day!

I think they got that epithet because if you have ever seen one feeding they tend to rootle about , turning over leaves etc. with their noses just like a pig does, while it searches for earthworms, grubs and insects. Not only that they do make almost pig like snuffles and grunts as they do so.

Pigs are the same size when they are born. as hedghogs are. When they are adults. Hope that helps.
