Indians, who have no formal holiday on the ofical holiday calander, it is a day of mourning for the largest holicost man kind has ever seen! Over 100 million natives were slaughtered by the invasion, we were the first victims of germ warfare (small pox infected balnakets given to the tribes in order to thin our ranks for easier conquest. Thanksgiving is in reality a celebration of a massacure by the pilgrams on an Indain tribe, first proclaimed by the governor of the Mass. colony to celebrate the massacure, later evolved into thanksgiving and the fake story of a mutual feast! To us celebrating Columus day isa a kin to celebrating Hitler's brithday day. Should American Indians be given a special holiday in our honor?

1. The word "Indian" is a misnomer, coming from the mistake of the aforementioned Columbus in assuming that he was in India.
It does not come from "In Dios" (although that was a nice try on the part of white christian liberals to try to soften the sting). And, yes, India was called India, even way back then (since 700 A.D.)

2. Having done Native Studies and nearly lost my lunch at some of the horrors perpetrated, it is certain that millions died, but numbers will never be solid. Part of the problem is the sheer magnitude of the loss of life - impossible to keep up with. The other, of course, is that the only ones who would have kept a written record were too busy continuing with the carnage.

3. The analogy drawn between Columbus and Hitler (and by extension, the Aboriginals and the Jews) has merit. There are even segments of those populations who believe that they are related (lost tribes). The Jews have risen from the ashes of the Holocaust , created their own country, and been wildly successful in the worlds of business and entertainment. The Natives, on the other hand, continue to struggle with poverty, disease, addictions, discrimination, injustice, lack of education, loss of culture, and coercive religion.

4. To answer the question at hand: Yes
There should be a holiday honoring the First Nations of North America. It should be in both Canada and the United States. It should be on the first Monday in March (which to my people, the Cree, is the Eagle month)

Great question, by the way - good to get people thinking.

The only way to right all of these wrongs is to give the country back to the natives. When you leave the country, I am sure everyone will follow.

Same things can be said for st. patrick's day.

He murdered many druids that history refers to as "snakes".

Murder and conquest have been happening ever since man has been around.

Oh please, you were killing each other and dying of disease long before the European's got here. Your figures are so far off, you must have attended public education - 100 million? Do you remember the Clove people that you killed off when you came to this land?.
