I am trying to hook up a 4 wire cord to a frigidaire dryer. the colors of the wires on the cord are red, white, black, green. the slots available to hook up to dryer are labeled L1, L2, N, Ground. please let me know what I need to connect to what. Thanks

Black to [L1] Red to [L2] White to [N] Green to [G]round.This is if Your Outlet Plug is Properly Wired.

Other answers were correct but I will simplify for you. The 2 outside terminals can be red or black. The middle is white. The green should come outside the cover and attached to an external screw. The screw that holds the plate over the terminals would be a good choice or if there ia a green screw close by, use it, The white is an electrical ground and also called common. the green is called a mechanical ground and is code in most new homes.

Red wire to L1 -- Black wire to L2 --White wire to N --Green wire to frame ground screw. Note: -- Red and Black wire can be switched around.

Gvaporcar is exactly right, make sure you have a 4 prong recept. for the dryer first however, and turn off power at breaker/fuse when trying for first time.
