People buy because they have a need or problem they want to fix, not because they have too much money and want to give some to you in exchange for something they don't need.
So if business is all about helping people to fix needs or problems it follows that your job is to care for your customers and make sure that the product you supplied does the job expected of it. If it doesn't you should not sell it to them.
That is how customers feel so they are much more likely to come an do business with you if you have a history of taking care of customers and making sure that whst you sell does what the customer wants. It's not rocket science - I can't think of anyone who wants a different deal from a business - so why do so many businesses find it difficult to give good customer service.

When we buy goods or services as a customer - it is the money that we use to pay for the goods that ultimately pays the wages of everyone who works in the company from which we are buying. As such, we deserve to be treated with respect. We expect sales staff to be helpful, to speak to us and actually look us in the eye as we are making a purchase - not to be served by somebody who carries on a conversation with a colleague and can barely give us eye contact. I work in customer services for a local authority and am aware that my wages are paid by everybody who lives in the area of that local authority (through council tax, etc). I work in a library and consider it part of my job to help customers find books they will enjoy - I often recommend books I've read to regular customers who have the same taste as me. If customers are elderly, or disabled, I sit them at a table and bring books back and for from the shelves for them to look at, I very often pack up the books ready and carry them out to the car for customers. If people are looking for information, I make sure that if I cannot find the information, then I can at least let them know where to try next to find the information they need. If I am not successful in that, I take down the details and their phone number, I then do research at home online, or with my many contacts within the community, and then phone the person with that information. Unfortunatley, although the libraries have online facilities, my managers do not allow me to spend too much time on research during working hours, so I have to do it from home. I feel that this is my responsibility as I feel that it is my duty to provide the best customer care that I possibly can, especially as my wages are paid by the taxpayers in the community. I always make sure that my customers get what they want, whether I do so from work or from home.

Customer care is important because it builds loyalty in your customers and keeps a good reputation for your company. It is also good manners and the right thing to do: why would anyone want to treat their customers badly?

No business can rely solely on new customers; there are only so many out there. To generate a consistent stream of business you need to get repeat business too, so you need good customer care.

In any business, 80% of custom comes from either regular customers or referrals. If you don't treat your customers well, then neither sources of that 80% will exist.

Not going to mention any high street shops, i always pick up items that have been wrongly labelled so when i go to pay the price comes up more expensive, but they never let me have the item for what it says on the label.....i thought that was customer care is all about? keeping us happy, so we shop with them again, its not my fault someone priced it up wrong....needless to say i walk out empty handed every time!

Customer gets good service = tells 2 people that they got good service.
Customer gets bad service = tells 10 people that they got bad service.
And the rest is easy.
