Dude, it's done...stick a bootable disk in there to re-install the factory backup. You will lose everything you previously had.

First make sure that your ribbon connecters are all working properly. Also that everything is plugged in right.Make sure there's not a cd or floppy in the drives.Or a usb flash drive that it may be booting from.
If it still says the same message after you've made sure of all that then find your recovery cd that came with the pc when you originally purchased it.
If you don't have that then you are going to have to get a OS cd & do a re-install...If that fails-new HD dude.

Before you reinstall anything, go into the bios and make sure your computer is reading your hard drive. If it isnt reading your hard drive, or if it is reading it incorrectly, you could get that message. There may be nothing wrong with the hard drive or the operating system on the hard drive. For unknown reasons, computers sometimes lose the information on what hard drives they are supposed to have. If your computer isnt reading your hard drive, look in the bios and see if there is an option to detect the hard drive. Good luck.

You need to at least reinstall Windows on the disk. You may need to replace the disk, but try reinstalling first. If that works, you're good to go. If it doesn't, time for new disk.

It is either your boot sector is damaged or you don't have boot sector at all. Usually those errors mean a damaged hard disk or a non-formatted drive.

If it has an existing OS and when boot up it displayed that error the way to do is reformating it, if it doesn't work during format that means your hard drive is busted.

if it is an XP operating system boot from cd and you would find an option to repair existing windows it it detects one on your hard drive then go for that and have your OS repaired.
it is not guaranteed solution
so before doing this boot through floopy and take back up of your data from your hard drive to the other.

you have no Operating system. you need to install one. I highly suggest Xandros, or you could just have a floppy disk in the floppy drive.

you could also try checking the Bios, and making sure that your Motherboard is reading that your hard drive is there.

I agree with the guy just above me with one other note. If your computer is lossing its cmos information you may need to replace your battery on the motherboard.
