I have just come back from the States and when I flew I couldn't take any fluids at all in my hand luggage. This included bottled drinks, things like lip balm, cigarette lighters, even wet wipes!!!

I think that the rules may have been relaxed slightly. I took all my advice from the United Airlines website and the Heathrow website.

Hope this helps.

no luggage to america nowadays dude! i wasn't allowed to take a coffee i had just bought at the departure gate onto a flight from dublin to luton. Seriously though... no makeup no lighters no liquids apart from essential medicine with supporting note from G.P or baby formula milk which you have to drink in front of them to prove it is not explosive stuff. So really you can't take anything. Hope you make it through the check gates ok!

I really don't know. the last I heard was that you couldn't even bring water aboard. Call the airlines and ask them to be sure and safe!
