Of what university are you wanting to know about? Every college or university is different as well as eclectic. Your sister sounds like she's seen the movie, "Animal House" one too many times, is using the stereotype of a university student (which is very dangerous) or she hung out with the wrong crowd at university.

I attended the largest university in the country for eight years. I have earned FOUR Master's Degrees and have a job I love. I don't remember attending one single party, I never drank alcohol because I am not stupid enough to do so and stayed very faithful to my fiancee because I don't run around on other people. I did not want any STD's. I suppose that the stereotypical university student does exist; however, I never met one of them. I hung with a group of students who wanted to learn and utilized the university's resources.

It all depends on how you want to use your time. If you want to waste it, go ahead. You will be kicked out and will not be able to attend university ever again...depending on the standards and expectations of the regents.

I would go and enjoy learning. Stay away from the "kids" and be viewed as an 'adult.' Carry a little pride with you knowing that you are better than those failing students who can't get themselves up to attend classes.

University will be, and is, whatever you want to make of it.

Because a lot of people starting uni experience freedom they have not known before, they might use it to do things like have sex and getting drunk a lot. Having said that, a large number of people don't! I went through uni and didn't have sex or get drunk once, it's not unusual! It's a good chance to do all sorts of new things, mine included singing in a gospel choir, working with homeless people, social justice campaigning, meeting other Christians, meeting people form all over the world, all sorts of other things, and oh yes, studying!

Your sister is right. Actually it is parties, getting drunk, sex, study and more sex. If you don't have money you have to work, so you have money to get drunk and have more sex. :)
