Afzal Guru, who was the mastermind behind attack on Indian parliament is scheduled to be hanged on 20th October 2006. Senior Politicians from Kashmir like current CM Ghulam Nabi Azad, ex CMs like Farooq Abdulla and Mufti Sayeed have come forward to support the demand to cancel his capital punishment. Their first priority is Islam not the Nation. How can they justify their demand or how can they prove that they have any faith in Indian Constitution. Please comment.

As an Indian I have due regard for the Indian judiciary, but I have no faith in the draconian law POTA under which Md. Afzal Guru has been sentenced to death.
If you go through the Supreme Court's judgment the whole "mastermind behind attack on Indian parliament" thing comes from Md. Afzal Guru's own confession extracted by the police. Needless to point out that what kind of authenticity these confessions have. Once we disregard this confession statement the whole mastermind thing and the conspiracy angle evaporates. Here I want to remind that this confession statement is what the BJP government claimed to be the concrete evidence of Pakistan involvement in the parliament attack and pushed the nation to the brink of a nuclear war. We all know how much it cost in terms of money and human lives.
The other evidence was of the cell phone records as allegedly one of the attacker knew Afzal and called him on his cell phone and also used Afzal's mobile phone instrument to use his SIM card. Even this evidence had problems, there were concerns about how the phone was recovered form Afzal and also there was some discrepancy relating to the Cell-I.D. and IMEI number.
Rest of the evidence was based on identification of the dead bodies of the attackers by Afzal which he denied and on some eyewitness accounts allegedly relating to objects bought by Afzal and one of the terrorists which he also denied, both of these evidences were dubious and could have been easily planted by the police. There is even discrepancies in dates of arrest of the accused.
Considering these evidences I feel that labeling Afzal Guru as the mastermind and the original planner of the attack is not beyond reasonable doubt and hence I feel that his death sentence be condoned to life in prison.
What Ghulam Nabi Azad, Farooq Abdulla and Mufti Sayeed had said only represent the popular sentiment prevalent in the Valley. They have acted exactly in the manner how a leader in a democratic country should act. I fail to understand the rationale where asking for clemency is equated to "not having any faith in Indian Constitution."
And how can you say that if one's first priority is Islam, he / she cannot love her country and cannot be a good law abiding citizen of India?

Afzal should not be hanged to death in the jail permises

instead he should be hanged in front of the parliament or must be shredded up by a couple of gunmans. excusing him for what he has done will let our country down and many other trrrorists will gain confidence. his life should be ended up without thinking any other thing, even the supreme court thas given its desicion. I do not understand why will any Indian want to leave a man who is the the nations foe.

all i can say is he must be killed to create an example for the others so that no one may ever try to again play with the dignity of our country.

No,They have no right to go against the Supreme court.
By supporting Afzal they are making their place in Kashmir politics only. They are seeing their politics career
and totally ignoring their country.

If they know what message will be go towards Indian Army after supporting a criminal they will never do so..
If Afzal's punishment is changed then no-one army guy
will like to die for our country.

In that case what will be the future of our country???

I can only say that If Mahatma Gandhi had been alive he would have supported the mercy petition.

I feel that if a large number of the Indian people can "pardon " him and suuport mercy petition, there will a small..... however small..... feeling in the minds of the people who do such acts, that world afterall is full of good people.Chnage of heart in people only will lead to change of hatred for the better.

Law of the land is supreme too. Who will win, heart or the Law?

I do not agree with you that he was the mastermind he was just a ordinary accomplice, now you Hindus are taking on your own people just because they are supporting a Muslim, what would you have done if he would been a Hindu shudr, in my opinion you would have hanged him also because he belonged to a low class but you would have raised hell if he was high class Hindu priest. I do not believe that you people allow minorities to live freely in your country and I believe that is against the Indian constitution
