I was chatting with a friend when the link suddenly came out in our chat window. I was pasting a file when it happened and then I accidentally opened the link...do i get a virus? so far nothing has come up. How do I check if I have the virus or not?

You'll know you got it when your friends start asking you about this link you sent them and then you'll be wondering what they are talking about.
If your antivirus hadn't detected when you clicked on the link and visited the website, then most likely you got it. Like I said you may ask your contacts if you've been sending them funny (strange) messages with a link....

I've received a few like this one: "Just check out my new personal website : http://[mytermex].[com] c0ol !!! "
or this one " A new dangerous computer virus that can destroys all your data has just been released . Click here to know how to avoid it : :http://[mytermex].[com]?id=pc_protector <<"

Use your antivirus software to scan your computer...

I added the [ ] to the url so people would not click on the link...

Yes, you got it now.. and it will spread throughout all your contacts.
Get an anti-virus immediately or else you'll keep and continue to spread it
