I don't eat meat because I don't like it. But you can have a very healthy diet with or without it! Everything in moderation and lots of vegetables and fruit is the best way to go, meat-free or not.

We should eat healthy food to keep our bodies in good working order. In our 20's we start choosing our own diet, and many conditions - arthritis, blood pressure and other heart conditions - may not cause problems immediately, but will be made considerably worse in later life if we don't lay down good foundations to ease/avoid them in our childhood and later.
It doesn't need to be meat-free - just so long as you get 6-8 glasses of water a day (to get rid of toxins) and 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day, preferably raw as many of the vitamins and minerals are wiped out by cooking.
A regular intake of nuts and seeds will also help.

What we eat affects us in many ways....our mood, concentration and of course our physical health. So for example...chocolate can boost your sugar suddenly causing you to feel happy for a short amount of time, but then your blood sugar level will suddenly drop, causing you to feel moody. Lots of salt can cause high cholesterol in later life....so maybe in that respect eating healthy food isn't apparent straight away...but come 20 years down the line, your going to see the results in your physical health. These are just a couple of a lot of examples as to how food can affect us.
Meat as a whole isn't unhealthy....Just some are very fatty. You don't need meat if you like lentils, seeds, chickpeas etc. because these contain protein, as do nuts.

Since when is being a vegetarian more healthy than being a meat-eater?
Vegetarians don't eat meat because they don't want to eat animals. Fair enough. To say they are healthier is a misconception. Many vegetarians are more careful about their diets though, as they are aware that they need to watch their nutritional intakes. My niece, for example, is a strict vegetarian, eats only chocolate and crisps. Not very healthy.
Our meat intake should be moderate, as should our sugar and fat intake. To stop heart damage, as cholesterol narrows the arteries.
