A Tablet form in the tank is good, I guess with bleach apart from cleaning straight away just leave the bleach in the bowl all around for At least a FEW HOURS,once a week is all thats needed. If we go away the weekend we leave the bleach soaking till we come back and the results are great brand new and gleaming

Why leave it so long that you need to use spirit of salts? It must be so.o.o.o bad! Daily cleaning with a toilet duck pad that you can flush away is more hygenic than a toilet brush sat by the side of the loo. Also could try one of those bleach tablets you drop in the cystern - never any excuse for a dirty toilet!!!

Bleach is OK as a stop gap if the toilet is grubby but you don't have time to clean it properly.
There are many toilet cleaners on the market - many say they work alone with no elbow grease (like bath cleaners too). Again, they are ok as a stop gap.
Ultimately, you need to clean the toilet regularly with a cleaner AND a brush - or I get those disposable pads - cannot stand the thought of a dirty toilet brush sitting in the bathroom.
Regular cleaning is the best.

Use a brush every time you use the toilet and then use Harpic powergel. It has a nice fragrance and keeps the toilet white and clean. Pull the flush regularly so the urine doesn't stain the toilet....dont leave the toilet without flushing it.You can use the bleach overnight also.

Put a Hippo into your cistern to reduce the amount of water used and flush the toilet more often (say after every other wee) and give it a good rub with the toilet brush more regularly.

I heard that if you have any stains in the bend of the toilet you put on a rubber glove and use steel wool to remove it. I tried it when I moved into a new house and nothing else worked. Besides that slosh some bleach in there every day.

Pour some coca cola down it and leave for a few hours, this is a serious answer too!
Failing that, drain all the water from the pan get some padded cotton wool and soak with vinegar and leave for a few hours.
