Do you think it would be a good idea for the UN to join forces with NATO that way one would not have to wait for the other to make decisions.
Surely it would be better for all Troops in particular to come under one Command and will avoid all the confusion as to who is doing what.
All Countries who are with Nato are not necessarily members of the UN and if they joined one joint organisation everyone would have equal status and responsibiltys

Absolutely not, it would be better to scrap the u.n. all together and reform it into a more democratic organisation. What has the u.n. ever achieved? has it ended conflict, poverty ? It cost's hundreds of million's to run that organisation, and for what?

What are you on about????

There are hardly any countries NOT in the UN... It exists for peaceful purposes as well as scientific, humanitarian etc etc..

NATO [along with SEATO] in the southern hemisphere were created as a defence against the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact countries during the cold war..

They were primarily a support/defence group whereby if one country was attacked all of the others would come to support them.

You cannot merge 2 organisations whose objectives and purpose are so diametrically opposed! It would be like tring to mergea jet engine and Manchester United football club because they both have fans!

Generally NATO and UN peace keepers operate in different spheres... where they do coincide there are often command and control issues.. but this is the case in any area where there is conflict and has been a problem throughout history where different nations have fought along side each other...

God no..... NATO has teeth, the UN is a toothless dinosaur who's only big stick approach it 'to send a letter' outlying the condemnation of the international community and to highlight the 'threat' of sanctions....

Big deal. I'd take more notice of the threat a NATO specification Brigade on a peace enforcement mandate

It's bad enough that the US government are the NATO police. Merge them with NATO and you get the world police - equals World War 3 by the end of the year.

Offenderseeker:

Absolutely not. At its inception the United Nations was a good idealistic concept, but over the years it has degraded into nothing more than a big corrupt, impotent bureaucracy.
