Of COURSE it's not equal; just take a ride from the ritzy part of Manhattan to the South Bronx or from Beverly Hills to Oakland and decide for yourself!

Same sex marriage is such an inoffensive thing that does not affect anyone else but means so much to the people concerned. America could be a lot more equal. America is rich enough to have free education (Cuba does).
America is rich enough to have free medical (Canada does). America could get rid of all firearms (Australia has). America has the best legal system in the world yet at any one time approximately 2% of its population is either in prison or going through the courts. If you are a poor young male in America you will either end up in prison or in the army killing other poor people.

It does not say anywhere that everything in America is equal! It says that all men are equal and have the opportunity to better themselves. How many Rags to Riches stories does it take to realize the opportunities in America exceed most of the world by far. Yes it harder for a poor hillbilly or a young kid from the Ghettos to get to the top, but it happens all the time. Name one society in the world where the rich kids don't get a better head start, and have more privileges. Even in Communist countries that happens. In America though a poor kid can do well if he tries hard enough, or gets lucky, or both.
As far as Gay marriage at least in America they can fight it out in court, take it to votes, without fear of retaliation by the Government. Try that in alot of Muslim countries. They execute gay people in a lot of those countries that are under strict islamic law. We may not be perfect but were along way ahead of most.

The only thing equal in America is the pockets of the government have the same amount of money in them, nothing else matters to them, preventing gay marriage is just to "save face" around the world.

Nobody claims the United states system of government is perfect but is still far and away the best on this planet...nowhere else do people have this level of opportunity and freedom. As an always evolving system some day it will undoubtedly recognize civil unions for same sex couples and any other fetishes.
