Well, you should definitely read "The Stars My Destination" (sometimes published as "Tyger, Tyger") by Alfred Bester. It was written in 1956 but is very William Gibson - I think Gibson has said it was one of his primary inspirations for Neuromancer.

Don't really know another author I'd automatically link to Coupland. Maybe some other trendy contemporary American authors - Don Delillo perhaps?

I like those too as well. So if I judge according to my taste, anything from Neil Gaiman will do but I strongly recommend his "American Gods". Lovely.
