Your IT has a degree of sophistication, the ability to block messenger and other products implies that they have other tools available as well, don't try to buck the system you could be disciplined or fired I assume that you have signed an agreement by your HR dept stating what is reasonable usage......

I had MSN Messenger blocked in work.
They only blocked the website so I downloaded it at home, sent the file to myself/saved it.
Took it in work and installed it..

not to sit on yahoo messenger! you do that in your own time....
i dont blame your work at all for blocking it..
