Yes. Because what connected the past and the present also connects the present and the future. We learn from our past to make our future better.

True History is always important as it tells the actual incidents of the past. But What we are taught is mostly concocted History by pre in dependant British Historians and post in dependant Indian Historians.Even to this day Indian History has not been corrected to represent the true political condition of 19th century and the atrocities of East India company.

History is important for us to learn some lessons. It is one of the important lessons from history that we never learn from history. Besides it enriches our mind. It expands our world view.

If a knowledge of art helps the art lover to better appreciate the works of the masters (and I believe it does), then a knowledge of history helps one better appreciate the events of the world, the tapestry of humanity. History gives perspective, as well as lending a greater understanding of current events (been there, done that).
Cheers.

Yes, so that we will not repeat mistakes. History will not help if you don't pay attention or ignore it. Hence the predicament the Bush admin put us in. Now it will take a miracle to fix all of there mistakes.

YES i know the typical answer is "so we don't repeat past mistakes" but my reasoning is that by studying History, we discover events that shaped the world and why things are the way they are now.

Yes so we don't make the same mistakes that have happened in the past. Of course you have to pay attention. Unlike Bush who didn't learn from Hitlers mistake of fighting on two fronts, and if you consider the terrorist that he is creating, it could be on three fronts.
