To upgrade the chip you have to make sure that your motherboard supports it. It probably wouldn't since the technology has progressed.
In any case, I don't think that these kind of chips are available for regular desktops, only for servers...

There will not be a 6Ghz chip in the near future, and unless there is some amazing discovery, it will most likely never happen. CPU chip speed pretty much maxes out inbetween 4 and 5 Ghz, for the simple reason that the parts cannot withstand the heat put out by anything faster. They once did a test using liquid nitrogen cooling and got the CPU up to about 5, but it competely fried it. The trend now is into multiple cores, quad cores are coming out soon and eventually you may will see 32 cores or more.

CPUs can generally be overclocked but by only 10-15%. Overclocking any higher will start burning the CPU and reduce its life.
The max intel cpu available is 3.4GHz. Dual Core intel cpus run at 2.x Ghz each thus giving a theoretical total of 4.x GHz. Adding up GHz of a multi-core CPU is meaningless though since no single application runs at the combined speed - only the individual CPU speed.
Wait till 2010 probably to start seeing single CPU speeds touching 6 GHz.

I'm not a techie myself(no where near it in fact!!)but a mate taught me how to make space, defrag and compact the discs, and generally bin stuff that was cluttering up the pc.I just got rid of everything i did not need and now my pc runs quicker and has a lot more space.....i know it wasn't the question, but before you go and change this, replace that, and bog about with the other, perhaps you could try what i did?As i said before,i am not a techie,so would not even consider "upgrading"-"replacing chips" etc,etc-i WOULD however tip my hat to the techies on this site-they know what they are talking about-you and i don't!!

The only way to do is overclocking which is little bit dangerous since it can destroy your pc, watchout!! and even overclocking won't increase your cpu's processing to 6 GHZ!!
6 ghz will be coming up Intel Pentium 5, one of the answerer of yahoo answer told this before,i'm not sure whethe he's right or just said blindly

The fastest processor on the market is about 3.6GHz, so you won't get a 6GHz processor. WHht makes you think you need more than 2GHz?
Replacing a chip ISN'T easy, especially as you yourself confess you have no knowledge.

One wrong move while removing the CPU fan and slipped through the motherboards PCB will mean one thing bye bye motherboard... If you wanna upgrade your PC better find someone that is capable of doing so. Once a scratch has done to the small circuitry to the PCB says it all.

If you can find a 6GHZ processor let me know, there isn't one, max really is probably around 4, so you'll have to wait, but you'll need a new board as well, you cannot simply unplug one and replace to higher if the baord does not support it (PROCESSOR)

Yes u need to upgrade your processor, While doing so u need to make sure that your mother board actually supports it.
My advice, if you dont know how to do it then please leave it to techies.
