I am a business adviser just about to start out on my own. I need to market my products but the first thing I need to do is decide upon a good company name, one that stands out and gets me noticed for the name, but also gives a clue to what I do. Hard isn't it? I live in a beautiful cottage called Virginia and I have even thought of themes around this name, but still no luck. Can you help?

Think back to your mission statement in your business plan, that will lead you. If you haven't written one, dont do anything until you do. You want your customer's to hear your name and know what you are about. What are the products you are trying to market? You could use "Virginia Business Advising by_____" but people might think you are in Virginia, unless u are. Get specific.

You are a business advisor and come to Yahoo Answers for advice, oh dear !

you business name says so much about a company. Why would you even think about calling it after your house. That bares no relation to your services or customers....very inward looking for a new business, let alone a business advisor.

Think about the type of business advice you are going to offer, what sort of customers it would attract, then think about what name would appeal to them. The name has little to do with what you like

That'll be £50 please.

Make sure that your mission statement or company image is in the name you give your business so that customers don't have to guess what you do. The prettiest name in the universe is not going to tell clients that you are a business advisor unless you put it in the company name.

I'm assuming your new business is consulting?!? You may not always live in that cottage, then your business name wouldn't reflect your home anymore :(

I LOVE the "My Business is Your Business" idea above :)
