Test your water first, ammonia, nitrite, nitrates, ph, kh & gh! You can buy other kits such as phosphate also which should be checked as well. Test the water source too.

Don't use chems, algae kill generally sets you up for fish kill sadly and is too easy to overdose... It will deplete the 02 in the water, stunt plants and whats worse, it just sets you up for a worse algae invasion. There are better ways to control algae's.

How often is the water changed? Whats the filtration like? How many fish & type involved? How big is the pond? All these things can play a part and more. Do you have a uv light? Liner, rocked or cement? Have the fish spawned? Whens the last time it was cleaned down?

Get with some experts and try some trouble shooting and see what you can do to to get that water back on track and cleaned up! I recomend Koivet.com...

All algae needs to grow is water oxygen and lots of sunlight.I had this same problem this summer with my koi pond and none of the commercial algea treatments seemed to work well enough.Go to you home and garden store and buy barley hay.Its available in little bales and float that in your pond.Over time the hay breaks down creating hydrogen peroxide and it will kill off the algea.I would also reccomend adding palnts to take up water surface,They will help block out the sun which will also kill the algae. You need to replace the bales every six months to keep the effect going but that should all be on the package.Good Luck!

There are these algae blocks that I buy at Lowes for my Koi pond that will clear the water up within a couple of days. I cannot think of the name of them and of course I am out so I cannot look at the package but they are 2x2 and white. Check the lawn and garden section. Good luck!

Go to your local pond store and get an ultra violet light made specifically for ponds. It will connect to your water pump system. Use that and you will never have to worry again until the light bulb goes dead.

You have an invasion of algae that is caused by the excessive use of fertilizer in the places where the water of your pound comes from. This kind of algae invasion in lakes is a worldwide phenomenon. In Europe it has even spread to the sea around the continent.

Buy some barley straw mats/balls from your pond supply store. They will keep your water clean for ages (in medieval times, peasants used to put bales of straw in their well to keep the water clean).
