I have suffered depression for many years now and have taken much medication for it. Around a year ago I began waking up from sleep within 10 minutes of 3am, now this is a 5 out of 7 days a week thing. Its HORRIBLE It is so bad that I decided to stop taking any medication (that was around 6months ago) and I still have this waking up at 3am thing....I have tried exercise, EXTREMEME exercise, sex, drinking alcohol, drinking warm milk, going to bed earlier, going to bed later...it still happens...its beginning to kill my mind i think....any suggestions?

i had the exact same problem for many years i never really try to solve it, i think i was thinking too much about the problems i thaught i had.. i tryied everything u said exept the medications even smokin weed it worked at first, i noticed that if u go to bed thinking u have to wake up at certain time u will wake up at that exact time maybe u just need to stop thinking when u go to bed so much. as far as the depression, depression is just a state of mind, medications dont really do any thing u cant do on your own, all u have to do is change the way u see things and stop judging yourself so hard

Please let me know the answer to this because I have had this same problem for years now. My mother passed away at this time and I always think its because of that but I dont really know.I don't drink alcohol or take anything...I go on the computer to while away the time because I can't get back o sleep. I had an accident recently and have had to have a morphine patch and now I wake up at 5am which is a bit better at least the black circle under my eyes are disappearing slightly lol

try breathng exercise"s giving up the grog an wild living for a while an think with a clear mind also go back to the doctors, get referal to someone else that is real to talk to also, also a diffrent medication because if your waking up in the nite its proberly not good proberly panic attacks so you need the medication to even it out if you read up you will find drugs like zo loft etc are not addictive but you must take them with support from your doctor any rapid stopping of any medication{ can effect you worst )if you retake sometimes it might have the reverse effect,.. so please matey see a doctor.

initially this could b the effect of medications but if its prolonged then i would refer it as a psychological problem.u have got used to waking up at 3am and that is stored in ur subconscious mind.u consciously try to avoid waking up at this time...
it happens like this coz we think a lot about this.just stop getting troubled .even if u wake up at 3 am then indulge urself in some interesting activity which u personally enjoy doing.then when u start enjoying it soon u will b free of this routine trouble.its all over ur head now.so i would just advice u to stop thinking of it.even if u get up early then take it easy..what big deal...rest in the morning..try out meditation and yoga..it will certainly help u..best of luck!

if u watched fight club you know what where you are going.

btw if all that doesnt work. its because of your first problem. Depression.

you are probably thinking of a one shot solution but no there isnt such things. its gonna be step by step.

1. find something/someone in life you can do to get rid of your depression
2. wake up at 6am in the morning. and stay up until night time. if you have to start from three, just do it.
3. clean your life up.
4. learn to relax more. its killing your mind because you didnt switch your mind off at all.

jesus, u get to get laid too -___ -

You have got yourself into a vicious circle. Every time you think about this thing you are reinforcing it's programme inside your brain. Then when you wake up at 3am you are becoming stressed. - This stress leads to further reinforcement and so on and son on ad infinitum.

Sit down.....think....calm down.

Somehow, we have to de-bug this programme.

What if it didn't matter that you woke up at 3am? What if you accepted it as part of your life? What if you laughed about it and made fun of it? You might start to ignore it!

One night you might just forget to wake up at 3am.

Try it, it will work. - not straight away, but gradually, over time.

And calm down:)

Whoa, you're whipping the crap out of yourself. I'm an early riser too. Look at it this way, at least you're still waking up. Get out of your own head, stop rationalizing, and things will start to get better.
