Here are some concerns you might have think of before you start:
1) Target completion schedule - It depends on how big is your house. It might take you few days or even weeks to finish. As every layer need to be dry enough before the second layer is apply.
2) Preparation - You have to think of how much paint do you need. The mixing and cleaning procedure too. Perparations like putting enough old newspaper or plastics on the floor and tape between the floorings and walls are important too. This can take you sometimes too.
3) Health - Take care of your health while doing it. Make sure you have enough water. Do some light exercise to relax. You might encounter pain at your shoulder, neck and legs. Take some rest if neccessary. Breath too much in a room with paints also can cause you headache.
4) Don't give up when you started it. CHEERS!!!

It's fun, and fairly easy. Since you're new you might want to ask for advice from whatever store you buy paint from. I painted a smallish room not too long ago (completely repainted all walls and the ceiling, as well as trim) and it only took one Saturday. Of course the larger the room the longer, and if you have people to help you can cut the time majorly. Two big things, Get some safety glasses that will fit over your regular glasses to avoid splatter, also, invest in painter's tape for edging.

If it is water base, which all paint is these days, it will splatter on your glasses, but you can wash off the paint. I like painting with a brush rather than a roller just for that reason. It goes faster than you think with a brush. You have more control, don't waste paint, not as messy. If you have a large area, then I would not suggest a brush, but if you are looking at a small room, or small areas like in the kitchen, or bathroom, a brush is the best. It is relaxing and fun. I like to wallpaper like some of the wall from the top to maybe not quite 1/2 down, and then pick up a color from the wall paper and paint the rest of the wall that color. You can accent that color in the room with flowers, pillows for the bed, bedspread, etc. The white lampshade stands out, and also the white trim around the doors, white door, white closet doors, etc. It is fun to put color in your house, rather than just plain white walls. I also like to put trim wallpaper to match between the wallpaper and the painted wall, which is from the wallpaper to the bottom of the wall. They have really pretty trim paper with flowers hanging down to either go to the top of the wall, if you are only painting and want some color or print, so just put it at the top all the way around if you do not want to try wallpapering. You can go very creative and don't be afraid of it, just dive in there and do your thing. If it does not look good, just paint it again. Get good paint, never get cheap paint, (cheap quality), ask the paint store to show you a good quality paint, and then look at the color cards. Bring them home, and stick them on the wall with tape, just to see how the color looks inside your home, in the light, when it is dark, etc. Usually the color will go darker in your home than when you are looking at it in the store. You can take very light color, even light pastel, and inside your home, it will show darker, so it is best to take the different color cards and see what they look like first before you have the color mixed in the store. Good luck. I have painted my homes over the past 25 yrs, and just about every type of wall covering, including tiling, wallpaper, paint, etc. Removing wallpaper is the worst, so be sure if you ever get involved with that, you get lots of information first. Steaming is the best. I never tape up the windows, with a brush, just take it easy, and it will be ok. If you want to, that is your choice.

Use latex paint. If you change the color, use latex primer first. The thing is the clean up. Use drop cloths. Have an area to flush paint out of the brushes/rollers with plenty of water. Don't dip the brushes in paint all the way up to the metal part. Just keep a brush loaded with the bristles. You have to have a roller for the walls after you do the edges with your brush.
Best tip I can give you is to use dishwashing detergent, straight from the bottle to make suds over your hands and/or brushes and rollers. Then start using water.
A cheap nylon-mesh pot scrubber is your best friend for getting paint speckles off counters, floors, your glasses, ect.

It can be a real pain. The actual painting of the walls will be the easy and fast part. What takes time is preperation, that is removing furniture taping etc. Also doing trim work is both tedious and time consuming. Have Fun!!!

It's great, it's easy, but do one room at a time, and use a roller rather than a brush. Paint comes off glasses, no problem. Have fun!

painting in my opinion is pretty easy but yes it does suck. It is very boring. Paint will clean off of your glasses pretty easy but i would expect you will get some splatter on you.

It is, when you start. But after trying not to touch the ceiling may overwhelm you a little. If it's just white, it'll be fun.
