First consider a better exhaust system, air intake system like
K&N, bigger carb or duel if its fuel injected consider changing nozzle size to give more gas into the chamber. Research with GM and see if they have any add-ons etc. Nitrous of course no brainer. get a scoop hood to get more air induction.

You can add a lot of bolt on pwer upgrades to any small block chevy, but you still only have a 305. My suggestion, keep th 305 in it, find yourself a good rebuildable 350 or even a big block, and build it they way you want it all the while driving the 305. then when the other engien is ready, drop it in and go.

remember, the more power you gain, the more things are gonna hafta be beefed up to handle that power.....

dont jus add NOS. that'll mess ur car up faster than u can imagine. you have to make everything else stronger to handle the nos. it may even twist ur frame. i'd say bore it out to about 30 over, exhaust, supercharger, intake. thats just a few simple ideas because it sounds like ur not lookin to drag, but u jus want sum power to have fun.

Two words.... "Nitrous Oxide"

Given that the Engine that you wish to increase the power from is in Good condition to start with, N2o is the simplest, cheapest, and fastest way to increase Power out put, with little money, knowledge, and tools.

Beware! power is addictive, And tossing 150HP at any stock Factory motor with out looking further into beefing up your internals is asking for trouble.

You're NOT going to add THAT much power without changing the engine. A supercharger wouldn't even do it.

If you're going to spend a lot of money, better to drop in a big block and be done with it.

The need for power is cool.Nitros is a quick fix but I don't think your 305 is gonna be a killer.

there are some good answers here, but before you do any mods to your car, does it need a emission inspection in your state? if so your car will fail inspection
