when having a new born baby work and sleep is going to be a problem. You should have known that before she was born.
new born babys are use to being in a womans stomach so you have to make the tempature warm at all time, like body heat. They constantly have to feel body heat. feed her every 6 hours and burp her, change her diaper the rock her too sleep. Always keep her clean.
if you can do that (as a habit) before she is maybe 3 months old she will learn to stare at you quitly untill she wants something.
if you rock or walk around with her so she can go to sleep make it a habit cause it will be the only way she can go to sleep at night or any hour.

I might have a suggestion, My baby who is four weeks old also has the same problem but just yesterday she was extremely active in the day for once fussed and cried and complained most of the day, but when night time came she actually slept for five hours straight woke up for a quick feeding at four am and then back to bed until eight...that to me is almost sleeping through the night, so mabye you can try to keep her more alert in the day. Also I gave her a bath and fed her just before bed, that calmed her enough as well.
BTW I have that fisher price mobile thing with music and lights and it doesnt work worth a dime...nothing about it soothes her.

My baby didn't sleep through the night until she was 9 weeks. Up until then, she woke up every 3 hours. And when she did start sleeping through the night, it began with six hours straight, not a total full night anyway. The point is, you just have to deal with it for now, she will start sleeping longer when she is good and ready too. There are no magic tricks, just let it come naturally.

Babies that age often have their days and night mixed up (coz mum moving when pregnant puts babies to sleep and night time when mum is still they wake up)
-Play with her during the day. Feed, play, sleep is a good routine as long as it's flexible (some babies prefer play feed sleep, but feed her out of pattern if you think she might need it).
-Keep interaction to a minimum at night: no eyecontact, don't talk to her, just soothe her by rocking, patting rubbing belly, putting music on softly.
- keep it light in the daytime and dark at night (no babies don't need a nightlight... none in the womb)
Remember that babies have little tummies and love being with mum and dad, so waking at night is VERY common and should be expected. It's our western culture that tries to get babies out of this really early - like some parental achievement. It will pass, but it is unfortunately just a fact of being parent to a baby.
Goodluck, we all understand!

Infants up to 4 months tend to stay awake during night time and there's nothing you can do about that. They automatically adjust when they about 4 months. This is the real hard period.
If the baby takes good feeds then he/she will tend to sleep longer intervals. That's the only suggestion I can make.

Is the mother nursing the child? what she should do is leave a shirt she had worn with the baby, the baby would then be a lot more comforted having the scent of the mother close. another thing that works REALLY good is one of those automatic swings, put the baby in one of those with mommy's shirt tucked close, you are sure to get that kid sleeping!!! (speaking from experience.. mother of 2)

Different things work with different babies. My brother would only go to sleep with my mother patting his back or behind steadily, I would only go to sleep when I was in a car, etc. Keep trying different things and you'll find what works. Also, they sell teddy bears now that emit sounds similar to those heard by the baby in the womb, I've heard they can work really well.

Try a Fisher Price Aqarium in toys at Walmart, They are a little spendy but it is soft soothing and distracts them long enough to make them float off to dream land! Also right before bed a warm bath with baby Lavander wash in it and Look for a aroma thearpy night light scented with lavander, it's a all natural sleep agent! whoo hoo I still use it to sleep with myself... also relax! take a deep breath and exit the room when you are feeling overstressed your baby can feel your stress....... Good luck and sweet dreams

My third baby is coming soon. It happened to me twice already. I think that babies have sensitive eyes in the day that light makes them more sleepy. What i did with my babies is changed their rutine
I tried to keep them up a little more in the day and i put covers on my windows for the first days. Its pretty hard at the beginning but then the rutine will change, remember babies tummies are tinny and they digest fast so they get up offten because they get hungry . my kids slept all though the night till 7 months. so hang on and have patience with little one.
