Probably some poor bastard in the African jungle a couple hundred thousand years ago. He woke up one morning with bad chills and fever and screamed, "Oh my God, I think I have freaking malaria!"

Oh, you mean the fellow who found that little critter swimming around in the blood stream ... Well, the unanimous opinion so far seems to be this fellow Ronald Ross and who am I to quibble?
