I have slugs in my front my sitting room which opens to the garden. I keep thinking because it is damp outside with the constant rain the slugs are coming in. The problem is I do not know how they get in. I usually wake up in the morning and see slug trails on my carpet usually in the same area of the carpet. I don't know how they get in or how they get out. Are they coming from the garden or is there some "slugs" nest somewhere?

i have a garden apartment, and yes i notice they come in the same places also.
They usually try and work their way towards any water source, such as the kitchen sink.
I found that near my front door and entrance hallway, and patio doors were a favorite traveling method for them.
Where I live they have an exterminator service for free, where they spray along the baseboard of the whole house.
i finally resorted to buying a can of raid and doing it myself, because everytime they sprayed a different kind of bug was coming in afterwards,Beatles, centipedes, and "yes slugs"..
The last time I used the raid ,I haven't had a problem since, but I know that this is only a temporary solution, but it has been 2 months without the little critters, but i still keep my eyes open.
Also spiders were another nuisance ,but the have since disappeared after using the can of raid spray . I also sprayed on the outside where they were coming in too.
I was just reading the other answers ,I guess it wouldn't hurt to try and use salt..i never heard of that before. With my luck it would probably attract them.
The girl who answered "keep your house clean"..obviously has no idea of what the problem is..she is a "dimwit"..
It does not matter how clean your house is,bugs will come in if they want and when they want.

You must try to establish their entry point. Move any furniture away from the area, and leave a fine line of salt from one end of the room to the other. Examine the line each morning to see if there is disturbance at any point.. Don't allow pets into the room.
You may find that a slug has touched the salt and tried to escape, in which case follow back to where the slug was heading.
I have heard that copper strips work to prevent slugs from crossing. We have a copper container in the garden. and they crawl up it to get to the plant , so does it work ?

My sis had this problem.

The best thing to do is locate the point of entry - if you know this you can get rid of them. Also get rid of garden waste etc. If you put little pots of cheap beer and scatter them Around the garden, they will crawl in and drown. This would also work leaving cans of beer (with a bit in). They are attracted to this, crawl in and can't get out. This will be more attractive to them than your house.

Copper is very repellent to slugs, and you can get sticky-backed copper strips from craft shops and garden centres. Try sticking a strip all around your door sills and any other entry point. It works on plant pots.

There is a pesticide made just for slugs. It works I know because I was once plagued with slugs.
If you go to your local Farmers co-op they will know just what to give you.I wish I could remember the name but it escapes me.
As for how they are getting in there is definitely an entrace from outside. Look close to water. Mine came up behind the sink.

Hi you can put slug killer around the door but if you have a dog or cat it is not a good idea.
but i have found that a great way of getteing rid of them is to lay salt down as when they come incontact with the salt they die.
and it is safe for any other animal apart from snals but they can be a pest as well.

You poor thing, that's revolting! You need to lay a slug trail of salt, to create a barrier and prevent them coming in. Trace their trails back to the source and get salting. Yuk.

There many just be a nest or eggs laying around. Make sure your house is dry. Get a dehumidifier, spread salt on your floors (you can clean this up later). Keep all doors and windows closed while you dehumidify your house. If this does not work call pest control.

they will come under the door or anywere were there is a tiny gap,i have the same problem ,so i out salt inside and outside the door (approx 2" deep) and that stops them as they dissolve with contact with the salt
