If a woman (or man) is described as "unmarried", then it SHOULD mean that she (or he) has NEVER been married!
Unfortunately, some people might either lie about it or not have a good enough command of English to realise the distinction..!
A woman who's divorced is normally described as a 'divorcée', and she would describe herself as 'divorced'.
A woman whose husband is dead would be described as a widow.
Of course, these days being "unmarried" doesn't mean pure and innocent! An unmarried woman might have been living with a man for years..! (Likewise, an unmarried MAN might have been shacked up with a woman!) People also have children without being married, so whoever you're thinking of, you should 'talk' to her and you should both share information - especially about previous relationships, kids, diseases, etc.!

Firstly the question requires rephrasing!
Secondly the meaning of the word 'Unmarried' for both Laides and Gents is the same. It totally depends on perception and the undersanding of the language.
UNMARRIED - means a person who has never offically shared any rituals/vows/rites which are a symbol or indicator of the man or woman sharing their lives ( under any community or religion to which either of them belong or in todays times it could extend to the customs and traditions of a community they fancy and have their nuptials solemnised) and in the broader spectrum sharing of - surnames, beds, pets and children. not necessarily in the same order.
And with the onset of the Modern Times - it means a woman who is not in possession of a Pre-nuptial agreement or is not waving her Pre-Nuptial Agreement in the face of the Man who just dumped her or got dumped by her (depending upon the clause in the Agreement).
