He was a great man and if his ideas would have been used this country would be in much better shape. His is very very loved here in AZ. His house and a park dedicated to him are located nearby.
He was a conservative Republican, yet most of his ideology is closer to Libertarian, individual freedom, small government, not too much government interference in business. He was also an ardent conservationist and loved the natural desert of AZ.

He was someone who held his position and thoughts about his beliefs....

With the way the religious right has taken over the right wing of the Republican Party, Goldwater would be appalled. Goldwater's views could be seen in his book, 'The Conscience of a Conservative'.

Goldwater's book is an honest appraisal of what Goldwater believed in regarding politics.

I am a Goldwater Girl--in spirit--I am actually much too young to have actually been one. But I really admire him and his thinking.

He was really a libertarian who believed that national defense and the promotion of liberty and freedom was a legitimate funciton of the federal government. I could not agree more. (though I am even more of a libertarian than him).

The above person who wanted to lump him together with Bush and Cheney could not be further off the mark and has to be very unfamiliar with the thoughts of Goldwater.

Names tell a lot about the family history. A "Smith" had an ancestor somewhere up the line who hammered horseshoes and swords out of pieces of metal. Likewise, a "Carpenter" or a "Cooper" or a "Baker" probably gets his name from someone who practiced those professions.

Now, what sort of thing would earn someone the name "Goldwater"? Hm?
