Those of christian faith can read in the bible that King Solomon and Pharaos of Egypt were men of great wealth. These men had strong armies that were protecting their territories and wealth. Of course they had guards for their strong rooms.

In those old days just like in modern days the rich had several domestic workers as well as slaves. On top of that they also had and have bodyguards for their personal safety. They also had and have guards for their wealth.

By the way not all rich people keep their wealth in banks in this modern era. Some still have their personal strong rooms and guards. Huge money kept in banks may invite suspiscions and investigations that may eventually lead to prosecution. P. Kawonga - Zambia.

Banks go back at least to the Lombards (15th century?) Before then, a lot of wealth was in land and other property, but no doubt the rich would have had a strong room and suitable security and accounting arrangements for their valuables and cash. But, the tales of Robin Hood remind us that security wasn't perfect!

hmmmm well lets see banks came into being during the middle ages

before that the rich tended to own castles, which were manned by guards and were probably as safe as the banks are today.
