You shouldn't, feeder fish are not the best choice for feeding anything and a Pacu is more of a vegetarian anyway. If you must feed it live food, use platies or guppies, the kind they sell as pets not the feeders, these could have infections and illnesses that they can pass to your fish. Feeders are not taken care of as well as the pet fish and are not quarantined for nearly as long. if you have to use feeder goldfish for money reseaons, put them in a seperate tank for at least 30 days and feed them well, you should keep the tank for the feeders around 79 to 81 degrees so they can hopefully get over any ilness they may have more quickly.

Pacus may be related to piranha, but they are not strictly carnivores. Feeder goldfish are too fatty and there is a huge risk of transferring sickness from the pet store tank to yours. Feed him frozen foods and flakes/pellets.

Feeder fish, unless obtained from a known person is guaranteed to have parasites. Why take the risk?

Look up the net to see what you can feed your pacu.

No, feeder fish are raised in such a way that they are heavily infested with parasites such as ich, costia and gill flukes. I never recomend feeder for anything because of this.

When they raise them, they are not expected to live long, mass produced in heavy crowded conditions. Do a scrape and scope on one, I've seen ich, costia and fluke all on one fish.... :(

It just isn't worth risking it!

If you want to feed fresh food, try some home made gel food recipes and use things like tuna, shrimp, salmon etc.

They like red bellied piranahs, make sure you get the big ones too, those are the pacu's favorite
