Believe it or not most of the animal breeders claim that none of the commercial products are very good. I don't know, won't touch that with so much new coming out all of the time, but tomatoe juice kills even skunk odor and bleach kills germs, not to mention it erradicates stains. Now if cats are involved, they claim you want to be very careful of the bleach and use only what you have to as some felines are inclined to be drawn to the odor and will do you know what where the scent remains. Lastly, when you have removed the bleach with alot of soap and water, you will want to go over the floor with white vinegar because it has the power to remove pet odors, I do want to be clear tho that if you use bleach you are bound to ruin any stain or varnish on the finish of your floor if you are using it with warm to hot water. If you use it without the water, you may as well not use it. Many people use only the vinegar to remove odors but that will leave the stain. Other pet authorities say afterward that you should use a detergent with a citris base or scent to clean because animals and especially cats will shy away from it. Do remember tho that is advice for most animals. I have cats and a dog that will not use the floor so that is not a problem, but they love fruit flavored yogurts so I doubt they would be inhibited from citris scents. Anyway you can go the whole process or just the vinegar or tomatoe juice and then re do with vinegar. If you remove the stains you will do it by bleach and hot water or by sanding the floor and if you use bleach it is going to cause you to have to sand and refinish the floor anyway. If it were me I would do the vinegar and carpet the floor for now. I would not go into the trouble of sanding and refinishing until I was moving or selling and moving. In that later case even, I would probably just mention or show a corner by folding back the carpet, that the floors are natural and not even go to all the work of refinishing.
