But what i think is, the baby is only 14 days old, as we had intercourse only on 20th sep. Dr. counts right after my period. But i think it's right to count only from the day we had sex.
Which one is right? Which is to be taken in to account for calculating the delivery date?

Technically, the fetus itself is only as old as its date of conception (when you had sex plus time for the sperm to reach the egg in the falopian tube).

Since many women ovulate at different times during a cycle, and I'm sure for other reasons as well, the doctor will measure a pregnancy from the first day of your last period. So you're not actually pregnant until about 2 weeks. It could also be easier to do it this way since a woman can usually better tell when her last period was (from obvious physical evidence), than when she had sex or which time it was that fertilized the egg (for those of us who have sex more than once a month).

Your due date will be calculated as 40 weeks from the start day of your last period. And yes, it's an estimate. In the grander scheme of things, women rarely deliver ON their due date, they can deliver weeks before or after. Anything less than 37 weeks (from the date of your LMP) is considered preterm, but anything past that is safe.

Well, the doctors are only estimating, my due date was 4 days off, and when I thought about it, it came down to the day I actually had sex vs. what the doc figured. They usually will make corrections later after the 4 month ultrsound if the gestation doesn't match what they had in mind.

Does it really matter? The baby most likely won't come on the due date. You just need to know the approximate time so you don't do something stupid like a plan a vacation that month. You can argue with the doctor all you want, but I doubt the due date will be changed.

You are full term at 40 weeks which leaves that extra 2 weeks. The doctor is right on this one. Because of this 40 week thing it causes alot of drama between relationships

you wont be able to tell an accurate delivery date. my wife gave birth 3 days early and 2 weeks early. the delivery date is just a guess.

you should count from the day you had sex. the doctor is only going by the last day of your last period, they are never accurate by that unless this was the same day you had sex
