Which do you prefer? I watch quite a few of them and cant decide on one...

Lost, 24, Two + A Half Men, King Of Queens, Prison Break, Will + Grace, Friends, The Sopranos?

Any others people think are the best?
And why?

Or is American TV crap in your opinion? Should british TV stop being over-run by it?

Who knows...

Something that annoys me about US TV is that us Brita dont get it until about 6 months - a year later. A programme can be on say Season 6, and we'll just be starting Season 4 or 5! Crazy!

I watch an episode of an American programme in NY in February which is yet to air in the UK - it's scheduled for next year I think.

I suppose that's an annoyance about how long it takes for us to get the US shows rather than the shows themselves!!!

Yank TV is good quality, especially the UK's mix of it, I'm an Englishman in Australia where they show American shows that would never get aired in the UK, honestly...anyway...

My Name Is Earl, Scrubs, The Shield, Deadwood, House & Will & Grace are good....but the daddy has to be...."woke up this morning, got myself a gun a gun"...Sopranos (season six is a bit iffy though so far)

Casualty was on before ER.

Some US shows are good. Over the years I have watched ER, Frasier, Friends, The Simpsons, Futurama, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Lost (gave up after the first series though), Greys Anatomy, Medium, True calling, The X files, Mash, House and The apprentice, to name but a few.

I don't think British TV is overrun by it. The 4 terrestrial channels still show predominantly British programs. Where Our TV is far superior to US TV is in the number and length of the comercial breaks. The BBC has none and on ITV there are normally only three 2 minute breaks in a 1 hour program. On sky those breaks are extended to 5 minutes and from what I have heard there are even more in the US. I really hate adverts!!

All those you mention are good.
You might also like " Six feet under" and " House",
What you must remember is that a lot of British actors & production staff go to America to work on and create these shows, eg Daphne in Frasier, the oldest brother in six feet under, Hugh Laurie in House.
Talent will always migrate to where the best opportunities are ,have you noticed the run of American actors seeking to enhance their credibility by appearing in the West End?
And it took an American(Sam Wannamaker) to spearhead the Globe theatre project on the South bank.
I llike your question, it promotes discussion, but the industry is full of people who are extremely mobile so the USA /UK divide is not as clear cut as it seems.
Though there does seem to be a more polished sense of production values on the US shows- perhaps they can afford to spend more on their productions.

American TV is sometimes good - the ones you mention are worth watching but I love UK TV too, especially comedy like Little Britain and Catherine Tate Show etc - old stuff is good too.

I think there's nothing wrong with a bit of variety - I love 'Everybody Hates Chris' and 'Everybody Loves Raymond'.

All good if you can get the time to catch them now and again.

8 Simple Rules, is absolutely amazing, sometimes i think American TV is loads better than English TV. Has anybody noticed that when the US release a really good programme the UK has to copy but it always turns out crap.
For Example; US = 24, UK = Spooks - now it doesn't take a genius to work out which one is the best.
US = ER, UK = Casualty - cummon, Casualty's crap, i would much prefer to watch some good looking people in ER.

My fav American Drama is House. Hugh Laurie is an amazing actor (and a Brit) and the story lines always got me on edge. I was also a Sex in the City addict and I love Friends. Oh and the Simpson's are hilarious. There are lots of good American shows, I could waffle on forever. I do believe that we need more British dramas on TV, the ones we have now just don't cut it!

American TV is dire. I was brought up on it in South Africa as the Europeans (except the French) wouldn't sell TV to the Nats. So we were stuck with Yankie stuff..its worse now than it used to be. Hard to believe I know, but true.

I have yet to watch more than 2 episodes of Lost (I never seem to be un-busy when its on!) but what I saw was enough to push me to buy it one day when I have some spare cash.

Most of my favourite American shows are now cancelled - Angel, Firefly, Friends, Simpsons, and 8 Simple Rules.

House is my favourite. I think Hugh Laurie is excellent, but the whole cast is good as are the scripts.

I used to like Angel, especially the first series. Also watch Lost, but sometimes wish I had not started to watch it.
