depends on the car and wether its front or back....if its an older car then go to the scrappy's n get a new strut if not thn it might be a bit pricy....150-500 depending on car....ull find most of this is labour and the part only costs 20-60 pounds, buy a haynes manuall n give it a go urself if uve got the time and the guts to trust ur own work....its always worth learning a few basic things urself i.e. how to do a service at the very least ( instead of paying 120 for large service ull spend 40-60 on parts n be able to say tht u done it urself) im only learing myself by trial and error but have saved a lot of money doin it tht way ( i got a quote of 120 punds to change a few bits on the suspension of my old astra...15 pounds on a haynes manuall and 27 pounds in parts and i had it done a fair bit cheaper)

RE:
how much do garages charge fo changing wheel bearings?

Depends on which bearing, on which car and who is doing it.

A big bearing on a prestige car being done by dealer or high street fast fit could be cost of a small house, but small bearing on a normal car done by your local independant garage could be pennies.

Choose carefully.

To be SURE it needs fuel, spray a volatile aerosol such as hairspray, or WD-40 into the air-intake after you lift the lid of the air-filter. The engine should start and run for a couple of seconds. If it does, then fuel starvation is definately the problem, and it sounds like you either have run out of fuel (!) or you have definately crimped a fuel-line or fuel-pump wire, when you jacked up the car!

I have been quoted £250 for my 98 Accord est. but that is just at cost as i used to work at the garage.
The expensive bit is buying the bearings, but if your cv (constant velocity)boots/joints need doing too then you are probably looking at £3-400 upwards.

I paid £150 to have mine done, and the garage said it was a bargain, parts are cheap, only about £20

It depends on what car and which garage. There is such a huge variation that to quote a price would be pointless.
