there is so much to do, it really depends on where your staying and what neighborhood your talking about. Then it goes into what kind of style you have, what kinds of people that you want to see...
North Beach is a neighborhood that is known as "little Italy". Its intersected by Columbus and Broadway. There's at least 15 places i could bring to your attention, but i'll stick with an outstanding restaurant, The Stinking Rose. I'd also have to point out the uniqueness of O'Reilly's Irish Pub on nearby Green St. Your also going to see some great clubs and strip clubs in this area, so the neon lights and people watching are great. Check out Club Dolce, or Dragon, both across the street from each other on Broadway.
The Marina is a neighborhood that has it all as well. On Sunday, Eastside West is a swanky little corner lounge that also features a raw bar. A DJ comes in during the day to play some mellow reggae. Order some fresh oysters, and one of the best Bloody Marys I've tasted. Then scope out the remarkable architecture of the Palace of Fine Arts real quick before driving down to Fort Point, which is a civil war fort that is directly under the archs of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Drive through the middle of Golden Gate park, which is essentially like NY's Central Park. After admiring how huge it is, stop by the Haight and Ashbury district, which was the breeding ground for the world reknown 60's band, the Greatful Dead. there is a ton of things to look at here. but catch a lunch at the ecclectic Cha Cha Cha's, a tapas restaurant with an amazing Sangria receipe. the lightly fried plaintains with black beans and sour cream are off the hook. try the ceviche, and the cajun prawns.
The best shopping is probably Union Square. One of the cities biggest clubs known as Ruby Skye is withing walking distance from there. Again, a ton of places to go.
The best part about SF is getting lost in it, and making your own discoveries. Best of Luck!

Hit the Mission District and take your pick. This is Mecca for local young adults looking for terrific reasonably priced food and libations. There are literally dozens of great fabulous restaurants down there... Andalu, Delfina, Foreign Cinema, Limon... plus the best taquerias in Northern California. Plenty of clubs and cocktail lounges down here too... go sip a Mojito at Luna Park, shoot some pool while sipping excellent martinis at Blondie's Bar and No Grill, or go have a manicure and a cosmo at the Beauty Bar!
Check out the links below... and enjoy!

I agree with HL; however don't miss Chow on Market street (near Castro). Get the 96 hours section out of the Thursday SF Chronicle and eat your way around The City.
don't miss Red's on the waterfront for old timey atmosphere!

Everything that everyone has written is really really good. For something a little different, and if you don't mind raw oysters, try Swann's Oyster Depot.
