Before I begin, please people DO NOT read anything into this question that is not here. I mean what I say, and I say what I mean, so if I don't SAY I'm racist or homophobic, it's because I'm NOT.
Okay, that said, allow me to elaborate a little.
I'm speaking of conditions in the US. This has NOTHING to do with the current administration, although it does have to do with legislature passed over the last fifty years or so. This means that whoever answers actually has to have some knowledge of our country, either through living in times of over fifty years ago or reading about it, not people whose knowledge is restricted to Clinton and Bush 43.
I wouldn't mind hearing from people in countries OTHER THAN the US, but this question is not specifically for them.
Okay, now to go into what I mean exactly.
In the 50s, discrimination and segregation were the norm. It was unheard of to be a homosexual. Teenage pregnancy was nonexistent.
Running out of room. I'll continue.

Now, of course, we're more tolerant of these groups. Unfortunately, in the process it seems that we're more tolerant of EVERYTHING, even the things we shouldn't be.
Should everyone be treated equal? Of course. But have we made it MORE unsafe, in "progressing"? I don't mean that we should go back to discriminating, or push homosexuality back in Pandora's box, but should we move slightly back? Why or why not?

Okay, let's see, things we're more tolerant of:
Sex and gratuitous graphic violence on TV (even during times that children watch)
Criminals (we defend them sometimes more than their victims)
Abortion (should be legal, but not in the third trimester!)
Teenage pregnancy (when my mom was growing up, she knew ONE person who got pregnant before marriage. I know countless people who were teenage mothers.)
There's more crime now than there was fifty years ago, and people scream about giving the criminals rights. And I'm not just talking about petty crimes. I'm talking about rape, murder, assault, and gang violence.
It's great that our schools are more tolerant of other religions, but our children aren't being taught morals at ALL. Their parents are too busy working, and the schools have their hands tied.

I agree with your sentiment.
The problem is that Americans, and the world at large, have been brainwashed with illogical moral equivalency.
This ensures that any behavior, no matter how barbaric or anti-social, is afforded equal status with decent norms, under the guise of 'inclusiveness'.

yes th society has gone too far.Its a pity that we cant go back though. The only thing we can do is abit of re-shaping some facts we have come to accept and for those that haven't penetrated deeply there still stand a chance to put a stop. Taking a look at gay marriages - the society has allowed that or is it the government.. Anyway gay marriage is now widely practised but dont u think we will b going alittle bit far by allowing this practice churches?

i recognize you weren't round...yet you DO understand the 60's and 70's were a heck of lots crazier than now as far as "love" is worried. human beings were carefree and satisfied again then...making love, no longer warfare. undergo in recommendations that from historic previous? If some thing, i imagine that the international has change right into a hateful one...with an complete lack of "love" for all of us. each man or woman has love in that they love their kin, acquaintances, better 0.5...yet i'm speaking about the quantity of hate in course of human beings that only opt for to love (homosexuals), or in course of a few thing that diverse. Porn has been round for a at the same time as....it really is only change into better mainstream because of cable television and the web. It has no longer some thing to do with society getting worse. in reality, I guess in case you may want to get them to be honest, the final public of your kin and acquaintances have considered or perhaps owned some style of pornographic textile faster or later of their lives. the international has replaced...certain. the affection continues to be there. in spite of the indisputable fact that, it really is the likes of you that would not replace with it and do not ignore that different human beings that are not guy and woman, non-non secular, etc. can like to that makes it look a lot worse than it really is.

It now seems that the USA is having a conservative era, more religious influence and claustrophobic foreign policy.
but in the long run progress will continue, as it continues elsewhere on the globe, especially in Europe, although the effects of war on terror might recreate a world divided by religious extremists.

Progress usually evolves from extreme liberals and extreme conservatives meeting in the middle and that's how it should be. Everyone gives in a little bit in time to advance as a civilized society and to good use.
I'm pretty sure in a hundred years, what you consider "too much" will be "too little" and our "just right" will seem barbaric....
As the world goes round... Don't you worry, we'll be A-okay

Discrimination and segregation were rampant, but it doesn't mean it was right. Homosexuals were all in the closet - there were just as many then as now. And if you think teenage pregnancy was nonexistent - then take a look around and tell me what it looks like in your butt.

You fail to make the argument, what exactly should we *not* be tolerant of?

Sorry, but by your question you are stating that there is a problem, and that is that we are "too tolerant" of one another, please elaborate.

The very idea of progressive thought is to move forward, climb above, push on, and I don't see anything that's evil with the progressive philosophy

You must read and search on the Law of relativity. For time is only required on earth and not a bit in outer space!!! . The question must be addressed in totality and the reality of science in our very eyes.

You need to do some reseach . Teenage pregnancy was very normal and so were homosexuals. Please do some research on this and 9/11 before posting erroneous questions and answers.
