Smoking, alcohol and drug use. Also sometimes bad diet. Not eating enough, or enough of the right vitamin and mineral rich foods that are good for your bubby can also contribute. If a woman has high blood pressure and swelling (of feet or legs etc) during her pregnancy, this is another contributing factor to a baby being born with a low birth weight.

Genetics can also play a role. I don't smoke, drink or do drugs. My baby was full term and i'm a health 22yo. My baby was only 5lb 14oz. Just genetically small.
Failing placenta can also cause low birth weight

Looks like we all have the same answer: smoking, drinking and/or drugs, as well as poor nutrition all contribute. Of course, there are some babies who are born tiny while others are big. My friend who has 3 babies, all born near the due date, differed greatly in size.

The BC pill is ninety 9% affective. i think of your hazard is very narrow. in case you're that worried approximately conceiving it is somewhat helpful to to placed on a condom too that way you may the two savor intercourse without difficulty! good success! (I particularly have never gotten pregnant jointly as on the pill, I particularly have been on it for 6 years, I went off BC and have been given pregnant 2 months later)

Smoking, drinking, drugs are HUGE cause but if you don't do any of those not eating right and taking care of you body have a big influence also because you unborn child needs as many vitamins and nutrients as it can possibly get. Eat right, stay healthy, take vitamins, and stay active

Smoking and I think that lack of prenatal care can sometimes contribute to low birth weight.
