This isn't your hard drive. This is your actual computer. The hard drive is just one small component to it.

When you power up your computer, it will run what is called a Power On Self Test (POST), which checks all it's hardware, and if it finds a probelm, it will report it to you.

It will check the graphics card and the RAM first, and if there is a problem, it will beep at you. The graphics card is needed to actually display anything, so if there is a problem, it will beep at you because it can't tell you any other way. It'll then check the RAM and it'll beep at you again if there's a problem, because there isn't enough RAM to store anything on, so it can't print anything on the screen.

Open up your computer and check these. If it still happens, I think it's best to look into a new graphics card. The best way to go about this, would be to check this is DEFINATELY the problem. You can get a really cheap graphics card that'll just display things, nothing special, for about £2-£8. If it works, then you need to replace the one you had. If you do it within a few days, you could even get a refund on the cheap one you had and put that towards a new one.

If it isn't the problem, try replacing your RAM.

i assume that since ur hard drive is not starting up, ur PC wont start too. also i guess, the beeps r coming from the PC speaker not from the hard drive. usually due to monitor failure, the PC is not able to give indications of what is failing, so it beeps (depending on the problem type) and this beeping has a specific meaning. open up the cabinet and tighten up the connections.

Computers have beep codes that tell you what is wrong with them. You have to find out what the beeps mean in order to know if the problem can be fixed easily or if something needs to be replaced.

if you can remove everything to another drive**.. format it and remove/re-install the drivers.. also system restore may help...
** if you cant use another drive, move all your important documents to cdr/cdrw.... you should always 'back-up' everything in-case this happens....
try just removing and replacing the drivers..
(rightclick 'safetly remove hardware' in toolbar) g/luck
